In most cases, no — a standard home EV charger installation does not require council consent. It is however required to be installed by a licensed electrician and a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) must be issued upon completion. We handle all compliance paperwork as part of every installation.
A typical home EV charger installation takes between 2–4 hours. This includes running the dedicated circuit from your switchboard, mounting the charger unit, and full testing. More complex installations — such as in older homes or those requiring switchboard upgrades — may take a full day.
A Level 1 charger uses a standard 10A household outlet and adds roughly 10–15km of range per hour of charging — slow for daily use. A Level 2 charger uses a dedicated 32A circuit and adds 40–80km per hour, making it practical for overnight charging. We install Level 2 chargers for all residential and commercial clients.
Yes — all our electricians are registered with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) New Zealand. We issue a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) for all prescribed electrical work, which you’ll need for insurance and future property sales.
